Corey entered the Marine Corps in December 1987 and was assigned to The Basic School for officer Training in May 1988 after four years of Naval Reserve Officer Training at the University of South Carolina. Colonel was temporarily assigned as a Financial Management Officer with Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune for training while awaiting assignment to the Financial Management Officer’s Course at Camp Johnson. Following the Financial Management School, Corey served in accounting, auditing, and budgeting positions at Camp Lejeune and was promoted to First Lieutenant. He then left Camp Lejeune for Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps to serve as an appropriation sponsor for the Reserve Affairs Budget Branch where he was promoted to Captain.
After attending resident Amphibious Warfare School in June 1996, he was assigned as the Comptroller, 8th Marine Corps Recruiting District, New Orleans where he was promoted to Major. While at the 8th Recruiting District Corey was selected to attend the Professional Military Comptroller’s Course at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. He was then selected to attend the Naval Command & Staff resident course in Newport, RI. At the completion of training, he reported to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing on Okinawa, Japan for duty as the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, Comptroller. Upon completion of three years on Okinawa, he again reported to serve Marine Corps recruiters as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G8 (Comptroller) for the Marine Corps Recruiting Command. Corey was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel during this tour and in June 2007 transferred to Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps for duty with the Accounting Branch of the Programs and Resources Division of Headquarters, Marine Corps.
Corey continued his service with an assignment to a second tour on Okinawa as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G8 (Comptroller), III Marine Expeditionary Force. During this tour, he was promoted to his current rank in February 2009. Following another successful tour on Okinawa, he and his family returned to the states for an assignment as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G8 (Comptroller), U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Central Command in Tampa, Florida directly supporting combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Corey retired after his MARCENT tour in 2012. Upon his retirement, he was hired by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), Tampa, Florida as a Budget Analyst for Defense Military Construction and Procurement resources. Following USSOCOM, he was hired and transferred to serve in his current position as the Comptroller, Region 6, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Dallas, Texas, currently completing 33 years of government service.
Corey holds a Single Engine Land Commercial Pilot license with an Instrument rating, flies a Grumman Tiger single engine aircraft throughout the U.S. for travel and volunteering for Pilots and Paws pet rescue.
In October 1992, Corey was married to the former Ms. Christine Ann Slattery of Lincoln, RI. They have enjoyed 28 years of marriage and have two wonderful daughters, Alexandra and Madison.
